Parent's Responsibilities
The academy accepts children 18 months to 4 years of age. Children in preschool 4 must turn 4 on or before September 1st of that year. The cut off follows the South Carolina public school system regulation.
Names are placed on the waiting list by date of application, with priority given to the following criteria, in the order listed, as long as diversity is not negatively
impacted:
• Children whose siblings are already enrolled in the program
• Children of staff
• Children within the community
If a space becomes available for a child on the waiting list before he/she is ready to attend, the space can be held only if tuition is paid in full each week until the child begins classes.
The following information will be completed prior to a child’s enrollment and will be updated as required by DSS regulations and/or requested by Center
administration or staff:
•Enrollment Form
•Student Information
•Physical Statement signed by physician
•Copy of Child’s Birth Certificate
•Emergency Information/Release Form
•Medical Forms
•Immunization Record
•Parent Agreement to Policies and Procedures
*A child cannot attend until the enrollment package is completed.
If your child is going to be absent or arrive after 9:00 AM, please call us at 864-399-9189. We will be concerned about your child if we do not hear from you.
Child’s first year enrolled: Half of tuition is still required when child is on vacation for 1 full week. The full tuition is due any weeks after, otherwise, RSELA assumes child will not return and spot becomes open.
If this is the child’s 2nd year or more, you can choose 1 free week of vacation time within one year. Full tuition is expected for any weeks after, otherwise, RSELA assumes child will not return and spot becomes open.
A written notice, two weeks in advance, is required by the center when a child is being withdrawn.
Whether transitioning to the next program setting or to a new classroom, your child’s records will be transferred internally.
If your child is transitioning to a new school, a written request from you with instructions to where the records should be sent is required.
All payment and fee processing will be completed by Josiellia A. Griffin or Brandon D. Griffin. He/she will be in charge of collecting tuition and other fees and contacting families regarding payment issues. If you have a question or concern regarding a payment or fee, please contact Josiellia A. Griffin.
Families contract for a specific weekly schedule as indicated on the Enrollment Agreement Form. Payment for this contracted schedule is required every week year-round whether or not your child attends; this enables us to pay teachers a stable salary every week all year. No credits are given for sick, holidays, staff training closure or closure due to inclement weather.
Payment is always due with no deduction for any absences, holidays, or closures due to inclement weather, power outages, or other situations beyond our control. Payment is due weekly by 5:30pm every Monday, as outlined in the Enrollment Agreement. Failure to pay child care payment will result in child care services being terminated.
Several methods of payment are available for families’ convenience. Families can pay by cash, money order, automatic electronic funds transfer or credit card. To set up automatic, reoccurring payments, please contact Josiellia A. Griffin.
Late payments can pose serious problems for our programs and as a result, the business does not have the latitude to allow families to accrue a balance equal to more than one week of tuition. Late payments will result in the imposition of late payment fees. Failure to pay child care payments will result in child care services being terminated.
Late pick-up is not a normal program option and will only be considered as an exceptional occurrence. Late fees of $1.00 per minute will be assessed beginning at 5:30pm and will be due upon arrival. Repeated late pick up will result in child care services being terminated
In the event a student or teacher test positive for Covid 19 they will need to quarantine for 14 days and test negative before returning. All parents will be notified immediately. In the event the school or class closes due to Covid 19, payments are not expected for the time the school is quarantined (at least 14 days). Payment will then follow the day the school or class reopens.
It is expected that parents will notify the center in writing at least two weeks in advance of withdrawing from the program. Withdrawal Notice Forms are available in the office, if needed. If this advance notice has not been given, tuition for the two-week period will still be due. Parents are invited to request an exit interview with the center’s childcare director upon their withdrawal from the center.
Services will be terminated when a pattern of any of the following becomes
excessive:
• Habitual late pick-ups please remember the center closes promptly at 6:00 pm.
•Requests for special accommodations that center staff cannot meet
• Failure to pay tuition or late fees in a timely manner
• Failure to comply with center policies concerning ill children
• Being unreachable and out of touch by phone
• Failure to provide documentation requested by center staff and/or required by DSS regulation
• Failure to keep immunization records current
• Failure to provide emergency contact updates
• Behavior that prevents the child from participating safely with peers
• Child or parent fails to cooperate with interventions
• Inappropriate or abusive behavior and/or verbal abuse or threats by parents, relatives, guardians or other parties toward the center staff, other parents or children.
Staff and students at Rising Star Early Learning Academy will follow the Rising Star Early Learning Curriculum as well as the Creative Curriculum.
